Reset Forty-Six, Day Twenty
Nov. 28th, 2022 02:14 amSunday afternoon I think I had some soup, and then a nap, and after I got up I had some peanut butter and crackers, nothing else on hand appealing to me. I'm supposed to shop later today, after going to the bank, and (assuming the store doesn't run out) there will be some asparagus, which I'm looking forward to. This is not asparagus season, so it's probably imported from the southern hemisphere, but I figure I can excuse the extravagance this once, just in case I'm not around for the next crop from California. I haven't been feeling very good lately, so it's certainly a possibility.
When I went outside for a breath of fresh air a minute ago I smelled a skunk. I've rarely smelled skunks in the mini-metropolis. It reminded me of the skunks who visited my yard in Paradise almost nightly during the last summer there. The would come to eat the food and drink the water I left out for the feral cats, and more than once they came onto the porch to do that while I was sitting there.
They never sprayed me, or even threatened, and several times two or three of them would hang around for half an hour or so after eating and frolic in the back yard while I watched. I've often wondered if any of them survived the fire that fall. If any did, they are almost certainly gone by now, as skunks in the wild have very short life expectancy, even in places that haven't recently been ravaged by wildfires. But I'm glad those cute little guys got a few pleasant hours to enjoy in my back yard.
I hope I can get enough sleep tonight, so I'll be fit for my busy day. My stomach is still being rather unpleasant, and I still have stuff to do before I can go to bed. It's a bit distressing that I'm not feeling very tired yet. It's a bad time for that.
