Monday I had a rude awakening when my afternoon nap was interrupted by about of acid reflux that had me choking and gasping for air. I inhaled acid and for several minutes sounded as though I had whooping cough. I seriously thought I would pass out and suffocate, but managed to hang on until the burning diminished and I was able to get some shallow breaths and eventually recover. I was miserable for h ours, though, and my throat and bronchial tubes still don't feel very good.
I had nothing on hand for treating acid reflux, so I called my niece and she brought some liquid stuff from Walgreens. It's mint flavored, but still tastes terrible, but it did help me to get some more sleep a few hours later without drowning in my own stomach acid. I've eaten very little since, but just finished up a few soda crackers with peanut butter, which might be bland enough to not set off another bout of the reflux. Damn, the shit that happens when you get old.
Countering that event, something good did happen Monday. When my niece arrived with the antacid there was a package on my doorstep. It was the one that I had gotten notice about being delivered on Saturday, when it wasn't there. I have no idea what happened. Maybe it was sitting there for two days but invisible, because I sure as hell didn't see it. But then it would have to have been interdimensional as well, as I walked through that spot it was in several times without encountering it. Just weird. But I'm glad to have the stuff at last.
It's supposed to be only 99 degrees today, and get all the way down to 67 tonight. This is if the bozos don't set the town on fire with their illegal fireworks, of course. We then get five days in the mid or low nineties, with nights in the mid to low sixties, which is fairly normal here for July. Pathetic, I know, but who has the energy to leave? Not I.
