Meteor

Last night, at about 21:37 PDT, I saw a meteor. It moved rather slowly, (toward the NNW) so it must have been fairly low. It was brighter than any of the stars out at the time, and it broke up in the atmosphere. I saw two smaller sparks fly off of it and vanish before the main chunk did. I'd say this was the second brightest meteor I've ever seen. (The brightest was about two years ago, and followed almost the same path across the sky.) It reminded me that that there is a meteor shower due soon- the Leonids, I think- though I don't know the exact date. I'll have to check on that. I hope it will be after the moon wanes a bit, though. Also, I must get some sort of lawn recliner on which to lie while watching the sky. I always get bitten by insects when I lie on the ground.

I've been reading up on 2002 NT7 (don't they have a nicer name for it?) apparently it has a 6/1,000,000 chance of hitting. So I guess I needn't worry too much yet.
