Not long after nightfall Friday I began hearing raindrops. Soon they were joined by claps of thunder. Although there had been an overcast much of the day, thickening toward evening, I hadn't really expected much from the predicted rainstorm. But it delivered. The rain steadily increased, and continued to fall without interruption for about three hours, at times growing quite furious, a few windy squalls flinging swarms of drops noisily against the windows. The thunder continued as well, though none of the claps were too near. It was all quite splendid, though I wished the storm had come a bit earlier, when there was still some light in the sky, so I could have seen it. The lights of the mini-metropolis are bright enough to blank out the stars, but in this corner not bright enough to adequately make nocturnal rain visible.

Since then we have had some intermittent showers, but nothing like earlier. There could be more showers today, and maybe even a few more thundershowers, but it's likely to all be over by the time I wake up this afternoon. The storm made it hard to believe that just a couple of weeks ago we were sweltering through torrid summer days and sultry nights, and equally hard to believe that summer temperatures will be back in a few days, though at least the nights will remain autumnally cool. And today will be almost chilly. I didn't open the windows during the rainstorm, as tempting as it was, because I want to conserve the warmth and avoid having the furnace come on during the coming cold Saturday night.

I managed to fix a good sized dinner and eat it without much protest from the Wicked Tooth(s). I'm also taking some anti-inflammatory stuff, which might help until I get around to actually dealing with the problem instead of just kicking the can down the road, though I'll probably just keep doing the latter until the inevitable night when I go hobbling (because I'm pretty sure I can't run anymore) through the streets screaming (or more likely whimpering, as I doubt I could generate an actual scream anymore either. My voice is getting as weak as my legs.)

As I was napless all evening I'm going to go to sleep now. It would be nice if a bit more rain would come along to provide an aqueous lullaby, but I'm sure I'm tired enough to do without one. Hey, and I didn't even forget to charge my phone, so my Idernet didn't go away and delay me. What with the rain and the fairly quiet tooth(s), that all adds up to a pretty good day. I won't ask for another, but I certainly wouldn't turn up my nose at one (turning it up would probably sprain it anyway. It's as old as the rest of me, after all.)
