Reset Fifty, Day Fifteen
Jul. 26th, 2024 08:51 amThe absence of either plumbers or drywall guy Thursday made for a placid afternoon when I could sleep, but of course has left me once again doing the official dance of the aged, the Twist In the Wind. When will there be water in the back yard faucet and Shelves for my stuff in the closet? Well I hope I won't have to wait until Hell freezes over, because it's nowhere near doing that. In fact Hell is still flaming merrily away, just a few miles from here, and I could probably see the smoke plume if my back yard weren't overgrown with plants I lack the means to trim which will in time dry out and become another fire hazard if I don't get that water soon.
So, things are still normal, alas. I recently woke up from sleeping through hours that I could have had the house opened and fanned and cooling, but I'm now snagging the last of last night's coolness. It didn't get quite as cool as predicted locally, probably due to the fire. The smoke reflects some heat by day, lowering the temperature (though not by much) and then by night holds in much of whatever heat did accumulate. The smoke is mostly northeast of here, but still appears to be having a regional effect. The fire is now at 164,00 acres, or so the latest reports said, but I'm sure it's expended since then. That was minutes ago!
My niece is out of town this week, so I'm hoping I can get a nephew to pick up some groceries on Saturday. One of them is was planning to go out of town himself but had to delay the trip because of the fire, but still might be able to get away Saturday, and another lives in an area which is under evacuation warning (though not yet order) and has to stay close to home, so a shopping run is still up in the air. And the air is smoky (heh- stupid old guy joke.) There is another nephew but he is not always reliable so would be a last resort.
Anyway, whatever I was going to say next I totally forgot, and it's warming up so I have to close the place. No plumbers of drywall guy here yet, but that means nothing. I'm going to eat my second-to-last donut now. Friday. Heading for a high of 102 but (maybe) a low of only 62 tonight.
