Monday turned out to be drywall day, though it was but the first of perhaps three or four. The guy said he'd be back today for... something. I don't understand drywall any more than I understand all the other technological wonders on which I am utterly dependent, but it appears that multiple things must be done, and after that there is repainting. So it's not all over, and now I'm feeling like an annoying kid in a car asking are we there yet? and no, we're not there yet. In fact we have died and gone to hell and this trip will never end. We are trapped in this car for eternity, passing an endless string of ugly roadside businesses, and being hot, tired, cranky, hungry, gassy, and unbelievably sad, because the drywall job will never be done!

That said, it's been fairly cool this morning, and the only really annoying thing is the dog the other side of the bike path who barks endlessly, and I can't be really mad at them because I can empathize so strongly with a beast who is trapped in somebody else's program. In fact I'm just pissed off at whoever owns that dog and is clearly not taking good care of it. But soon enough it will heat up and I'll close the window and won't hear the dog anymore. And then I'll have something different to be annoyed with: the heat. It's coming back. It will only be 95 today, but tomorrow another string of triple-digit highs begins, and by Friday the nocturnal lows will be back into the seventies for at least a week. Like the drywall job, this summer will never end.

Sadly, this is all I have to relate. A few cooler days and nights have been insufficient to unclog my heat-addled brain, and all I want to do is go back to bed, though I can't because I have to be awake for the drywall guy, whose time of arrival is, unsurprisingly, indeterminate. Instead I'll probably go try to watch videos and end up mostly watching my browser fight with YouTube. So it goes.

Oh, and this morning the Park fire is at 383,000 acres, making it the fifth largest in the state's history. It's only 14% contained, so has plenty of time to break more records. The sky is not quite as smoky as it was yesterday. Small favors, thanks

I've been in CA for ... nearly 20 years and loved the heat. In the beginning. Now I cry out, "ENOUGH ALREADY!" I'm trying to convince myself "It'll be this terrible next summer."
Just call me ... blind!?
