I wasn't expecting anything from Wednesday, and I didn't get anything. Well, except for a Windows update, which took forever. I decided to do the update while I made a sandwich for dinner, expecting Windows would be done within a few minutes, but I went and made the sandwich and a salad and poured a beer and got back to the computer after seven or eight minutes, and the screen still said "Getting Windows Ready. Do Not turn Off Your Computer." Getting Windows ready to do what? Play Grizabella in "Cats?"

After a few more minutes the actual installation began, and I was given a new reason not to turn off my computer. Then some time later it started to do what it called cleanup. The installation must have been a filthy process, as cleanup took quite some time itself. Anyway, by the time I'd finished eating, the job was finally done. Grizabella would surely have made her entrance sooner. All told, it took a bit over half an hour for the update to be installed and ready to go. I think that's the longest it's ever taken, at least in my experience. And I haven't been able to tell any difference in how the machine operates. Same old sluggish and cranky Windows. Just like me.

But it has gotten very cool tonight, and looking at the long range forecast it appears that I will be able to get through this billing period without any more air conditioner usage or any furnace usage, so I might make my goal of a bill lower than the credit I'll get from the utility company. Yay for an extra fifty-five bucks. Oh, and since we got rid of the vacant lot for which I was paying a water bill every two months, that's another forty-four bucks I won't have to spend this month. An extra hundred to squander! Maybe I'll get some actual shoes. I've seen ads for some that have an adjustable Velcro closure, so they can fit feet that swell a size or two, which mine do. And I might see if I can get my niece to pick up a few gadgets for the kitchen I've wanted for a while. I've been using more garlic lately, and I still don't have a garlic press. Mincing garlic by hand is tedious as hell.

The humidity must have declined, as I've been thirsty all night and downing lots of water. I'm going to be waking up to pee too often today. But at least I'm pretty close to my long-time sleep schedule, getting to bed not long after five in the morning. Now I just have to avoid distractions for a few more minutes. I'm pretty sure I haven't forgotten anything, and I'm definitely tired. And the high is only supposed to be 88 degrees today, so waking up shouldn't be a nightmare. Last month my sweat was so heavy I could hardly lift myself off the bed. I'm glad that heat is gone.
