Wednesday morning brought a brief shower. I didn't see it or even hear it, let alone feel it, but I dozed near dawn in a stuffy room and got up to open a window, and when I did I smelled the rain. It had stopped by then, and the gray light was too dim to reveal any damp that had accumulated, but the scent was unmistakable. There had been rain. Later, after I had slept a few hours, I checked the Idernet, and it confirmed that brief showers had fallen on parts of the mini-metropolis. I'm glad that my part was one of them.

Although today is not predicted to be especially hot(a high of 72), it does bring a red flag fire danger warning. Oddly, there is also a 15% chance of showers. But the showers will be inadequate to dampen a desiccated landscape, and it's going to be windy. That is a pretty dangerous combination, so we have to hope nothing gets started.

The long range forecast now reaches the end of October, and it's mostly pretty mild. There will be a few days with highs in the eighties this coming week, and after that the days will all be in the seventies. Nights will be dropping into the fifties for the rest of the month, until the last two nights which will dip to 49. There is a 33% chance of afternoon showers a week from tomorrow, and a 38% chance of showers on Halloween. It all looks quite survivable, as long as nothing catches fire.

Although this week's Safeway sale is nothing great, it's at least marginally better than last week's, so I guess it's a good thing I decided to wait. Having skipped a week I have a lot of things I need to restock on, so I'll probably be spending most of a month's grocery money in one trip. Such excitement! But right now I'm too tired to appreciate it, so instead of pondering the twistings of fate, I'm going to go to bed.
