My sleep was ruined Thursday night by an emergency notification from the local fire department informing me that evacuation had been ordered for a neighborhood considerably north of mine. I signed up for the text notifications, which are accompanied by a series of loud noises from your phone, because I want them, but unfortunately the system is not very fine-grained, so I get notifications for things happening all over the county, even when they have no chance of effecting my neighborhood.

In this case it was a flood warning which was issued for the rather rustic area north of town. Rapid runoff from the burn scar of last summer's biggest fire had overloaded the watercourses and hundreds of houses were threatened. It's good to know, but I didn't need to know at two o'clock in the morning. Once I'd navigated the county's clunky web site to find out just where the problem was, I was too wide awake to get back to sleep. I've been awake ever since, and it's taking its toll.

Arrangements have been made for groceries to be fetched today, but now I have to go order them, which is a major asspain. I don't enjoy it even when I feel good, but it's worse when I'm tired. It will probably take at least two hours, and that's if there are no glitches or computer or web site problems, and no power outage. I wish I could have a nap, but no time. I need to rush to get a one o'clock pickup time. Thanks, warning system.
