Blessedly Cool

When, at last, a few cool days arrive in August, I wake fully, instead of stumbling through the day just waiting for evening. It's like passing a difficult test- I grow almost giddy, and have a sudden desire to do crazy things, such as having two bottles of beer with dinner!Not only is today cool, but it is breezy, and the sky is filled with wispy clouds. Ah, the relief from that relentless blue-grey haze and breathless air! The windows are flung wide open, and the freshness flows into the house with the sound of fluttering leaves and whispering pine needles. The last weeks of summer are the best.

Glad to hear you've got some relief from the heat! As one who withers mentaly and physically under long hot spells, I know the symptoms you write of. There has been a bit of cooler weather here also for the past 2 days, but the prediction is for more very hot weather coming soon. "They" say this has been one of the hottest and dryest summers on record for this area and it certainly seems so to me. We had a short downpour, lasting about 10 minutes two nights ago; not nearly enough to do the vegetation any good, nor the reserviors, but at least there was enough to provide some water to drink for the squirrels, rabbits, racoons, possums, etc. I've been filling bird baths and pans three or four times a day for weeks now for the ones around my house. There are water use restrictions here, but I think giving water to the birds and animals is OK.

It sounds as though you got California's weather this summer. I think the weather we got belonged in Arizona. Arizona, of course, had Hell's weather. Maybe Hell got New Jersey's weather. :-D
