I've lost track of everything. I've been sleeping a lot, and when not sleeping often merely slugging abed, during which times I have increasingly weird and semi-apocalyptic fantasies which frequently degenerate into embarrassingly inappropriate humor. It's a good thing nobody can read my mind, although keeping an online journal comes pretty close to that. Anyway, the last week or so has been a pig's breakfast with ham and bacon, and I'd be glad it was over if I thought it really was. But I have come to believe that there is a law of the conservation of stupid, and I've become a ball in a Newton's cradle of imbecilic mischance.
My latest misadventure with the reputedly real world involved the same agent as the one earlier in the week, Safeway. I successfully got an online order in early Friday morning and then quite belatedly went to bed, waking up later to the dingy sounds of text messages arriving from the store's shoppers. This item not available, substituting this, then again and again, and finally an order is complete text. But what I soon realized I didn't get was the email confirming the sale. and it occurred to me I haven't had any emails from Safeway for quite some time. So I checked my in box going back and the last time they sent me anything was February 11. And I have made two online purchases, not counting Friday's, since they've sent me an email receipt, which was way back in January.
Now how have I not noticed this before? Well, stupid, inattentive old guy, obviously. But how have they not done what they had been doing since forever? I checked my Safeway user page and my email preferences have not changed, I'm still subscribed, but if they are sending them I am not getting them. They are not in my inbox, not in my spam folder, not anywhere. Is it a failure of my email service provider? I don't know. They are opaque and, as far as I can tell, as uncontactable as I'd expect them to be in a nuclear winter. But all my other stuff is still arriving, and I doubt that either Yahooo or ATT is engaged in a vendetta against Safeway. I was going to contact them, but alas, by then it was after five o'clock on a Friday and, like Cinderella's coach, their customer service line had turned into something as useless as a rotted pumpkin. So, I have no idea how this plays out until Monday, if my brain even still works by then. It might be as useless as digital technology, or a cybertruck.
In the meantime, spring is here (belated happy equinox all) and just as a holy fuck! moment for the Suckramento Valley, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we'll be getting highs of... 80, 82, and 85 degrees, disrespectively. March came in like a lamb and might plan to go out like a fecking dragon. To be sure, rain is predicted for Tuesday, and after that the forecast shows a string of days with reasonable highs in the sixties, with more rain predicted for April 1. But I for one will not hold my breath. That is, after all, April Fool's Day and it would not surprise me to end up being incinerated by having big chunk of the sun hurled at us. I intend to drink up all my beer by then, just in case.
