We've had a couple of days of bloody awful heat, adding immeasurably to the misery of my dotage, but somewhat offset by the fact that the nectarines Safeway substituted for the peaches I'd ordered last Friday have been exquisitely delicious, and I've been able to enjoy two big bowls of chilled nectarines, honey and cream, a perfect summer treat. enough nectarines remain for one more bowl, which I will have sometime tomorrow. This evening I am indulging myself with some air conditioning, as the horror of 82 degrees indoors at eight o'clock in the evening, likely headed up, became unbearable.
The outdoor temperature won't drop to match the air conditioned indoors 79 until after midnight, and I might be asleep by then. I certainly have nothing to stay awake for. I don't intend to eat dinner, just snack a bit. If I wake up at some point and find myself hungry I can microwave a frozen entrée of some sort, and have no dishes to wash. My sink drain is still not properly draining, and my detergent allergy is still playing havoc with my sore fingertips.
Friday and Saturday we're getting a brief heat respite, with highs of 82 and lows of 56 and 58 respectively. Sadly it won't last, and next week we'll be back to the nineties followed by triple digit highs starting a week from tomorrow. I haven't yet gotten my utility bill, so I don't know if I've been frugal enough to dodge any payment for June with my $55.00 California climate credit. I'm not sure if today will be included in the June billing cycle or not, but whenever it's included it's going to be pricey. But I don't want to be thinking about the future's dismal realities now. I just want to lie on the bed with the cool(ish) conditioned air blowing over me.
