In lieu of a post, I'm blathering about the war in pixelshim's journal. (Yes, he's back!) It took me three freaking hours to write that latest (two part) piece of crap, and, of course, I'm not at all satisfied with it. I can't find half the stuff I wanted to make reference to, most of my arguments are fragmentary, and wander off the point, and I get the feeling I've left all sorts of stuff out. Now you know why I didn't finish college. The only reason I had a 4.0 while I was there was because I had no life outside school. (Here comes a Tolkien reference for weetanya.) I have always been more like Mister Butterbur than like Lord Denethor. Thinking tends to take me a long time. That's one reason I'll never start a war. Unfortunately, I'll probably never prevent one, either.

However, you do yourself honor. Gandalf called Butterbur one of the wisest men around, while Denethor was too easily corrupted by the Palantir ... =)

I think I probably did, though I can't remember the particular instance. Every once in a while, I get involved writing a comment or a reply to a reply to a comment that just grows and grows, and there is no time left to write a real post. I don't make comments on a lot of interesting and provocative entries for that reason- I know I'll end up spending half the night, or several days, involved in some elaborate intellectual argument. When that happens, I always turn into Monty Python's Mister Gumby: "My brain hurts!"

Hardly "a piece of crap"! On the contrary, one of the best things I've read about the underlying reasons for this war. Good start - a little wandering, but relevent in the middle - and an excellent close. Now, if you could just fit this all into a bumper sticker....~; > )
