To send time spiraling down into a black hole, I suggest RPGs. Especially those run on web sites whose pages take forever to load.

There is some small chance that, this afternoon, I will be able to go for a walk. But this will only happen if I go to sleep right now!

A war might be profitable, but terribly time consuming.

Come to think of it, serving "long pig" to the troops would be a good way to tidy up the battlefield. And very economical!
