April Shower
Apr. 1st, 2003 11:24 pmSoon it will storm again. The day gathered clouds until the forest was stripped of brightness and brooded under tumbling masses of gray. Splashed color of spring flowers deepened against the vivid green of new leaves and rich green of grassy swaths. When days go gray, colors are absorbed within themselves, no longer bright reflections of the overbearing sun, but manifestations of the earth emerging through plants. Walking windswept streets in the first drops of rain, I felt the red soil rising as a scent, the raw form of what the growing things make sweet.
