Overheated
Jul. 17th, 2003 07:25 pmWhen I woke this afternoon (far too late,) the first thought to enter my mind was the oracle's warning to the Athenians: Fly to the ends of the Earth, and make your minds familiar with horrors!
Seven o'clock, and the temperature outside is still above 90oF. The dizzying sense of heat is not mitigated by the profusion of feathery cirrus clouds which have formed through the evening. They are, however, pleasant to look at.
I stumble through tasks half-aware, forgetting to do things, and doing things that I have already done, or which don't need doing at all. The cats glare at me because their dinner is late, and I nod off into a distressing daydream full of brown lawns. I am useless in summer. I wonder if it is cool and foggy in San Francisco today?
