A few nights ago, when it was sprinkling off and on, I mentioned the smell of the raindrops on the hot pavement. What I forgot to mention was that, later that night, I kept catching the scent of wintergreen in the air. I don't think I've ever seen an actual wintergreen plant, and I don't think that any is growing around here, so this was another of those odd, quasi-hallucinatory scents I occasionally catch. The thing that reminded me of it is that just now I went outside and got a whiff of clove. I suppose someone might be baking a pumpkin pie, but I would expect that to linger, and to be mixed with other smells. This was like opening a jar of the spice, sniffing at it, then closing it. It was gone almost as soon as it appeared. All I can say is that if this is a brain tumor, it's certainly taking a long time to develop. This has been happening to me for years. Whatever it is, at least it breaks up the monotony of the day.
There is no longer a house parked in my street. However, I did see a good-sized boat go by a while ago.
