As soon as I woke up, I began sneezing. I don't know if it was because some plant was throwing off pollen, or because of the smoke in the air. If it was the smoke, I don't know if it was the smoke from the two fires that are burning dozens of miles away but still filling the air with haze (golden afternoon, purple evening) or the smoke from the stewing apricots which my dad burned. The house smells of carbonized sugars. I've quit sneezing, but my head still feels stuffed with cotton. Dirty cotton.
It is more hot than not, though less so than yesterday. There won't be any serious cooling until Sunday, but I refuse to turn on the air conditioner in October. Autumn will be back, of course. This is only one of those belches the weather sometimes does, as a result of having had too much spicy summer. Summer; The chili verde of seasons!
