Lotus Eating Time
May. 2nd, 2005 07:56 pmNow there are days like drugs that sharpen the senses and yet leave the body flaccid, so that all perception is directed outward. Even the crows sit silent, perched on still pine branches, while honey light pours over a world engulfed in green. Grasses grow perceptibly longer each day, the spiked expanse of lawns forever defeating the relentless mowers. Evening brings cricket songs to replace the soft hum of bees. Hour after hour, my thoughts abandon their tasks and wander that landscape which has grown so vivid that it penetrates even closed rooms as shades of color and light, plangent sound, and subtle scent. How will I ever concentrate now that the world is engaged in constant seduction of my senses?
