Winter made a feint today, cold air defying the bright sunlight and offering a foretaste of December. Lingering cream puff clouds dragged chill shadows to darken the woods where the busy woodpeckers and squirrels chattered. Abbreviated afternoon ended with a pink and lavender sunset. The clouds stuck around long enough to conceal the crescent moon until it set, then began to disperse, opening a vast expanse of icy stars. A brief warming is due for the weekend, and then the rain will return on Monday.
