Nodding Off
Dec. 7th, 2001 04:30 amWow. Practically went to sleep in front of the computer. That never happened before. Too many disruptions recently. I need to get more sleep. I have to be careful when Sluggo is booted up. He is just waiting for me to drop my guard. Then he will get me.
I'm hoping to get enough free time to read Parallel Universes, by Fred Alan Wolf. I've had a copy sitting around gathering dust for months. I don't like to get started on a book about quantum physics unless therre are unlikely to be interruptions. The subject is difficult enough for me to grasp even at the best times. If something comes up that distracts me for a few days, I know I'll never get back to the book.
Sort of ironic, isn't it? I can't read about physics because I can't find the time. Heh.

Date: 2001-12-07 06:51 pm (UTC)Sluggo is just a totally crappy machine. An AMD K6II processor, which everybody except the folks at AMD now acknowledges to be crap. Windows 98, second edition (need I say more?) A modem which had to be tricked (I don't know how- my nephew installed it) into realizing that it was in the U.S.. A decrepit mouse, keyboard and sound card. A Diamond Supra video card, which is probably not a good match with the K6II. About the only things in it that are decent are the hard drive and CD writer (both NEC,) but I can't use the CD writer function because the Adaptec software causes the whole thing to crash. I think that eventually, I'll just have to get a new machine into which I can put the NEC components. It doesn't help that I know next to nothing about these machines, except that every single one of them wants to kill me!
