Tuesday stayed overcast all day, though with very little rain, and after rising at five in the morning and having no nap I found myself getting tired about nine o'clock in the evening, so went to bed. It was like being a normal person, or like a little kid again! I even made Spanish rice for dinner, which is something we had often when I was young, though I made mine from a mix. All that was missing was a couple of hours of radio shows before bedtime.

But the normality had a rude conclusion. After midnight I woke suddenly with the feeling that someone was knocking loudly on the door. As I didn't see the brightness of my security light through the blinds, I knew nobody was actually there, and as there was no further noise I knew nobody had knocked loudly at the door of a neighboring apartment, so it must have been a dream. It was very effective at waking me up, though, and I was unable to return to sleep. I've been up ever since, though I might be getting a bit tired again now.

The big storm is supposed to be arriving soon, but right now it's very quiet here. This afternoon it's expected to get very wet and very windy, and the storm should continue through Thursday. The long range forecast is showing either rain or showers every day for the next two weeks. I hope it won't all be as furious as this storm though.

My feet are still swollen and sore, and frequently itchy, which is a problem when I'm in bed, as moving around enough to scratch my feet is now almost impossible. I have to sit up in bed to scratch my feet, then get back under the covers, which are increasingly difficult to arrange (curse the joint stiffness of age.) I'm going to try cutting back on the salt in my diet, though a lot of the tuff I have on hand is pretty salty, and see if that reduces the swelling. If it doesn't, I'll just assume that I have kidney or liver disease, or congestive heart failure, and will be dead within a week, if not hours. Being dead would get me out of the trouble of changing my diet, so might actually be the best option.

Anyway, I don't think I'll fix a bedtime snack, but I intend to have my usual bedtime square of chocolate. If it turns out the swelling is related to diabetes, well, I'll just have to die of that, as there's no way I'm giving up my chocolate, or my breakfast donut, or my dinner beer, or my pancakes with maple syrup. Some lifestyles might kill you, but some others just aren't worth living.
