Reset Forty-Seven, Day Forty-Two
Jan. 10th, 2023 10:29 amSome catawampusness of sleeping and eating, along with the disruption occasioned by Safeway's web site shenanigans Monday have aggravated my usual (what's the word? Unfocusitude? Brainfartiness? Senile dementia?) Monday evening I slept, then got up after midnight, then let my phone battery run dead because I forgot how long I'd been up, and then while it was recharging I attempted a brief nap, and the brief nap didn't end until rather late this morning. After seven o'clock, anyway. Now I'm trying to focus on doing whatever I didn't get around to yesterday, but not being very good at it. I think I should probably eat something.
I woke up a few times early today hearing the storm outside. The wind was quite fierce at times, and the rain sounded copious, but I didn't get out of my warm bed to look out the window. Monday I saw a short video loop of the Sacramento river west of the mini-metropolis, and it was close to the top of the levee. If it overflows it probably won't come this far. In southern California the entire town of Montecito has been evacuated. That's over 8,000 people, many of them quite rich (Montecito, adjacent to Santa Barbara, is the most expensive suburb in the U.S., with a median house price of $5,600,000, which is a far cry from the rustic backwater it was when my grandmother was growing up there in the late 19th century.) Today's storm is expected to be pretty big, so more displacement more places is likely. I hope this place is isn't one of them.
Okay, I'm going to make some pancakes, and then see if I can deal with whatever the deal is with Safeway and my account there. They still aren't letting me log in, just showing me that 403 Access Not Authorized notice. I don't know if it's their screwup or mine, but it's got me befuddled. Hey, that's the word I was looking for! Befuddlement!
