Reset Forty-Nine, Day Thirteen
Jun. 5th, 2023 02:16 amMy beer tastes odd. It might be a consequence of the potatoes I had for dinner. I got some ready-to-cook potatoes of a brand I've had and enjoyed in the past, but they have changed their flavors. The seasonings being all different has an effect on whatever I eat or drink with the potatoes, and what they have done to the beer is very unpleasant. I think I probably won't be buying those potatoes anymore.
Anyway, I slept a lot Sunday, three times, or maybe it was four. When I wasn't sleeping I spent too much time hobbling about on my aching legs and stiff joints. I've also taken to hearing random words called out by unrecognizable voices as I'm nodding off. I don't remember what they say. It's surely not important. I'm probably just developing a touch of schizophrenia to go with my senility. Or a brain tumor, my old standby.
It was so very hot Sunday, and still too warm tonight. It might be hard to sleep, though I'm quite tired. I guess I could turn the air conditioner on for a few minutes, as I'm getting desperate to be comatose. I'm yawning every two minutes and getting cramps under my chin. What the hell is that about?
I came across something I'd never heard before, Duke Ellington on piano and John Coltrane on saxophone playing Ellington's composition "In a Sentimental Mood" in 1962, with Elvin Jones on drums and Aaron Bell on double bass. I'm quite amazed I never heard this. It's a splendid performance. I'm especially impressed by the polyrhythms Jones gets into starting with Ellington's solo. What a great quartet these guys made. Perfect music for this sultry night.
