Ay, caramba! Underslept Thursday then spent too long this morning ordering stuff from Safeway, though I did remember most of what I wanted and they did get the order assembled in time, though it hasn't been picked up yet, and all this despite a time-eating computer crash and reboot. Still, I'm feeling fairly crappy and wish the nephew would get the stuff picked up so I can stash it away and go back to bed. I ate an artichoke for breakfast, with a bottle of Modelo Negra, and that was seriously sleep-encouraging.
As usual when stuck in limbo I am watching music videos. YouTube has informed me that there is a resurgence of interest in classic Brazilian bossa nova, the hybrid of samba and smooth jazz that surfaced at the end of the 1950s and became global phenomenon during the next decade. I've always liked the style for its mostly cheerful (sometimes sad though) gentility, which I find has a relaxing quality. Here is the very first bossa nova song, Chega de Saudade, composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim and first recorded by guitarist João Gilberto with singer Elizeth Cardoso. It was released in 1958.
