Sluggo just ate this evening's entry before I could save it to the clip board. Another hour of work down the digital toilet of the AMD K6-II. (Buy Intel.) When I finally replace Sluggo with a real computer (Intel inside), everyone is invited to a Sluggo annihilation party. Bring sledgehammers.

The whole K6 family is totally intolerant of heat. They need a huge heatsink and thermal grease. You also can't overclock them. I've built exactly 1 K6 system. My mom has it now. It's only a little cranky. I'm sure it would be worse if it was left on all day. All the other computers I've built since then have used Intel CPUs.

Sluggo was built by one of my nephews, and he put the K6 into it before the problems with that particular device became widely known. I suppose that every company has built a flawed chip at one time or another, but most of them have acknowledged their mistakes. I recall the widely publicized problems with the early Pentiums. Intel admited to them. AMD remains in denial about the K6. That is why I distrust the company, even if their other CPUs are far more reliable than this piece of junk, and I'll be looking at Intel machines when I replace Sluggo.
